Q:What format does the phone and fax number have to be in?

A:All EPP based registries (.com/.net, org, .info, .biz, .us, .name and .cn) use the international phone number format:

+CCC.NNNNNNNNNNNNxEEEE

Where C = the country dial code, N is up to twelve digits of the phone number, and E is the extension. The x character is ONLY required if an extension is specified. For Tucows, this would be +1.4165350123 (where 1 is the dial code for Canada)

Q:What is an authcode?

A:A transfer authorization code is required when transfering any .com/.net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .name and .cn domain name from one registrar to another. The transfer authorization code is created at the time of registration and can be obtained from the current registrar for the domain

The authcode can be found in the "Domain Extra's" section of the Manage Interface - https://manage.opensrs.net

Resellers can also email the authcode to the admin contact email address listed for the domain. Simply log into the Resellers Web Interface, enter the domain into the "View Domain" field and click on the Query button. On the next page you'll find a link to send out the information.

In the case of legacy .COM .NET registration, the auth code can be created in the "Domain Extra's" section of the Manage Interface to then allow for transfer of the domain.

Q:Can I change the Auth Code?

A:Yes, as with any EPP domain you can change the auth code via the "Domain Extra's" section of the manage interface (https://manage.opensrs.net/)

Q:How do I assign an Auth Code to a legacy .COM/.NET domain?

A:All legacy .COM .NET registration can be assigned an auth code in 1 of 2 ways.

1. The auth code can be created in the "Domain Extra's" section of the Manage Interface (https://manage.opensrs.net/)

2. Via the API using the existing API modify_domain (domain_auth_info attribute)

Q:Can I transfer a .COM/.NET domain in that has no Auth Code?

A:No. An auth code must be assigned to allow the domain to be transferred. This is done at the registrar the domain is currently registered through.

Q:What format does the authcode need to be in?

A:The transfer authorization code must contact between 6 and 16 characters.

Q:What are the registry statuses for .COM/.NET and how to they relate to the current statuses?

A:
Current (RRP) Changing to (EPP)

Q:On August 26th I made changes but they reverted. Why?

A:August 26th OpenSRS/TUCOWS will be migrating all domains over to the EPP platform. If you made a change during the migration, it may not have been comitted properly to the Registry. It's best to check back the next day to see if the changes needs to be reapplied.

Q:How do I transfer from a non-EPP Registrar from Aug 26 to Oct 28?

A:You can transfer domains from non-EPP (ie: RRP) Registrars by using the code "RRP" in the Auth Code field in the transfer authorization screen used by the Admin Contact to begin the transfer.

Q:How do I set a domain's auth code in the Reseller Web Interface?

A:This can only be accomplished in the "Domain Extras" section of http://manage.opensrs.net using the domain owner's username and password. You should not need to set auth codes for migrated domains -- OpenSRS will do this automatically.

Q:How do I bring a domain out of REDEMPTION PERIOD status?

A:The Redemption Period is a 30 day, Registry-imposed hold period for domains that occurs after OpenSRS has instructed the Registry that the domain should be dropped. Domains will have reached the REDEMPTION PERIOD state if they have been EXPIRED for at least 40 days, were NOT renewed by the owner or Reseller, and the drop domain process has run. Normally domains would be deleted at this point, but the REDEMPTION PERIOD provides the owner with one last chance to recover the domain before it’s dropped and potentially re-registered by a new owner. It is a new policy started by ICANN and the Registry Operator, Verisign:

http://www.icann.org/registrars/redemption-proposal-14feb02.htm

The Redemption process is costly, both in fees and in effort. Registrants should be discouraged from using the Redemption Period and encouraged to renew domains before expiry or during the grace period when a renewal can be conducted with the registry in real time and for no additional cost.

Domains are still deleted from our database at the 40-day mark, and if you are interested in getting this domain name back, here is what it will take:

- This is now handled by the "Domain redemption" link in the RWI.

- The domain can only be reverted back to the original Registrant (original whois information).

- It will take approximately 2-3 business days to complete the entire process.

Of course, there is always the option of waiting out the entire grace period, which would be approximately 40(Post Expiry Grace period) + 30(Redemption Period) + 6(Pending Delete period) = 75 days.

If you have any questions about the Redemption period, please feel free to contact your Account Representative or sales@opensrs.org for the Account Management Team.

Q:What is the .com and .net Redemption Period?

A:The Redemption Period is a 30 day, Registry-imposed hold period for domains that occurs after OpenSRS has instructed the Registry that the domain should be dropped. Domains will have reached the REDEMPTION PERIOD state if they have been EXPIRED for at least 40 days, were NOT renewed by the owner or Reseller, and the drop domain process has run. Normally domains would be deleted at this point, but the REDEMPTION PERIOD provides the owner with one last chance to recover the domain before it’s dropped and potentially re-registered by a new owner.

The Redemption process is costly, both in fees ($80USD) and in effort. Registrants should be discouraged from using the Redemption Period and encouraged to renew domains before expiry or during the grace period when a renewal can be conducted with the registry in real time and for no additional cost.

If you have a customer who wishes to redeem a domain:

- Send us an email to payments@opensrs.org, please include the domain name and your reseller username along with authorization to charge your reseller account for $80 + a one year renewal at your normal renewal pricing.

- The domain can only be reverted back to the original Registrant (original whois information).

- It will take approximately 2-3 business days to complete the entire process.

Q:How do I transfer a domain?

A:You can transfer domains to your own Reseller account via the client code or by using "Place Transfer Manually" at: http://resellers.opensrs.net. All that is required is a valid Admin Email address. The domain's manage login/password is not required.

Reseller-to-Reseller transfers work almost exactly the same as registrar transfers. The Reseller is charged one domain year and the domain is renewed after the transfer completes.

For more detail, see the OpenSRS Support FAQ: http://rrc.tucows.com/opensrs/faq/support_faq#Live_registrar_transfer

Q:Once an expired domain has been renewed, how long does it take for the services to begin working again?

A:Assuming that the domain DNS and hosts are still in place, the domain will begin working within 48 hours of its renewal. We put the domain back into the root immediately, the delay is caused by propagation out from the root.

Q:How can I send out a domain username/password?

A:RSPs have the ability to send out the domain username/password to the listed Admin Email contact. In the "Domain Management" section of the Resellers web page, find the domain in question.

You can use either the "View Domain" or "Search Domains" link.

The link to send the login/password is at the very bottom of the Domain info. It also shows you the address that it will be sent to. ca domains will also have a link to send the CIRA password.

Only domain owners have access to this info. Since this is the only way to recover a lost password, please make sure the Admin Email is kept up-to-date.

If the admin contact email address is no longer valid, the listed domain owner must send us a signed fax on company letterhead, if possible, requesting that the address be updated. In the fax be sure that they include a copy of their government issued photo ID (Drivers License, Passport etc), the domain name and the new admin contact email address. Please have them fax it to 1-416-531-2516 ATTN: OpenSRS Support

For the registrants convience, we have created a pre-made PDF form that can be used as a template. You can find the form at http://rrc.tucows.com/resources/docs/adminemailchange.pdf

Q:How do I register a domain?

A:You can register a domain 2 different ways:

1) RWI - The Testing URL is: http:/resellers-test.opensrs.net and Live URL is: http:/resellers.opensrs.net

Click on the first link, "Place Order Manually" and fill out the form with the information that should appear on the whois. The "Retrieve Order Information" section is optional and is used to quickly fill out the form using an existing domain or order.

Please note that the Admin Email address must be valid at all times. It is the only way to recover the login/password

2) Quikstart - The Quick-Start program is geared towards RSP's with an immediate need to register domains while they are integrating the full access implementation into their systems. Our intent is that RSPs move as quickly as possible to the FullAccess system to take advantage of such features as:

* fully automated domain registrations (including billing, credit card and payment capture, etc.)
* customizable domain registration templates to capture the look and feel of a given Registration Service Provider.
* customizable domain management interface, continuing your 'look and feel'

.....all of which combine to offer you maximum revenue potential.

Q:How do I manage a domain?

A:All domain changes are done through the Manage Interface. You can find the Manage Interface at https://manage.opensrs.net

You will need the domain's username/password in order to access this page. The RSP can send this info to the Admin or Owner via "View Domain" on the http://resellers.opensrs.net

The Manage FAQ can be found at: http://rrc.tucows.com/support/faq/MWI_faq
